The present research had as objective the evaluation of the effect of the oil palm cultivations, in chronological sequence, on the chemical and biological indicators of the soil, in function of the seasonality. Oil palm plantations of 5, 17 and 25 years, and secondary forest of 23 years were evaluated. For most of the variables studied, a significant difference was observed between the collection seasons. Cmic and Nmic were higher in the 5 years planting than in the 17 and 25 years, in the dry season. The RB was higher in the planting of 5 years, indicating the high biological activity of the younger planting. The qCO2 was lower in the 25 years culture, emphasizing its greater stability. The chemical attributes evaluated presented strong correlations, being observed positive correlations between Ca, Mg, pH and V, and negative correlations between these attributes and Al and m. In the analysis of main components (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), three groups were formed, composed of the studied areas, where a strong approximation was verified between the 5 years oil palm planting and the secondary forest, regarding the chemical attributes, which demonstrates the few chemical transformations in the soil in the initial years of implantation of the oil palm. Thus, in comparison to the secondary forest, the oil palm plantation caused minimal variations in the chemical and biological attributes evaluated, being, therefore, this culture considered a sustainable alternative for the recovery of degraded areas.PPGCA - Estudos de ecossistemas amazônicos
