It presents as a problem-question: How do women construct their gender identity and hope in the daily life of a prison school in the state of Pará? The field research was carried out in 2023, with a group of six interlocutors, all enrolled in the prison school and who declare themselves black, who were interviewed and participated in the moment of elaboration of the drawings in order to represent their dreams and daily life in prison, in a less apprehensive/directive way. The aim is to analyze how women construct their gender identity and hope in their daily lives at the “window to life” prison school, in order to verify how the rituals of this school designed for men enable the construction of gender identities; how gender inequalities experienced in the daily lives of women in prison influence the failure or success of women in school; how the prison school pedagogically addresses issues related to women; and also to understand how women in their daily lives at the prison school foster hope and overcome the logic of the male prison system. It consists of a qualitative field research with a dialectical approach being developed based on the following methodological procedures: focus group technique with the use of pedagogical dynamics, conversation circle, drawing technique and narrative interview. The systematization and analysis of the data was developed based on Paulo Freire's studies on the technique of categorization, content analysis (Bardin, 2007) and the technique of drawing (field of social representation). The drawings produced by the study participants were analyzed according to the use of thematic categories (gender identity, women in prison, education in prison; gender coloniality; everyday life; hope), which broaden the discussions raised in the research locus, represented by their complexity and dynamism. From this perspective, the research indicates that although the identities of these women are influenced by gender inequalities, violence, domination and invisibility, they also, through the movement of metamorphosis, seek in their daily lives to develop relationships of friendship and companionship that contribute to the resignification of themselves and the space of coexistence in prison. In this scenario, imprisonment is not only a sad episode in the lives of these women, characterized by the dispossession of themselves and their identity, but also a challenge between themselves and their peers, marked by the rediscovery of the possible transformations that they hope to achieve beyond the bars.PPGED - Saberes culturais e educação na Amazônia
