A mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative) was adopted to analyze traditional practices, the relationships between communities and sea turtles, and the effects of the MONITORA Program of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). Data collection was carried out through participant observation, semistructured interviews with artisanal fishermen, community and institutional representatives, as well as workshops and discussion groups. This research complied with Resolution No. 466/2012 (CONEP), with approval from the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Pará (CAAE No. 88175925.6.0000.5174), the Deliberative Council of the Maracanã RESEX, and the Biodiversity Authorization and Information System (SISBIO), under Nº 97188-2. Participants were selected using the snowball sampling technique, and the data were organized into social, economic, ecological, community, and capacity building/work organization dimensions. The results indicate a predominance of artisanal fishing as a basis for subsistence, with turtle management being a complementary source of income; and that the interactions between fishing and turtles are integrated into the local dynamics, not being the main threat to the species, with natural nest predation being the most prominent. No significant structural changes were observed in the community dimension, and capacity building actions are concentrated among residents linked to management. The outreach activities highlight the importance of community engagement and strengthening local leadership, indicating that conservation strategies must be aligned with sociocultural and productive realities and traditional knowledge.
