Among the many services provided by ecosystems, which contribute to improving human well-being, provision is characterized by obtaining resources from nature, such as: wood, fruits, useful plants, among others. Within this context, the Soure Marine Extractive Reserve is a Conservation Unit that was created to protect local fauna and flora and is responsible for the provision of various ecosystem services, among which the provision is highlighted, through the use of useful plants. Although it was created to guarantee the sustainability of its ecosystems, in recent years it has been suffering from threats to its biodiversity, and this process may jeopardize the future flow of ecosystem services. In this context, the objective of this work was to economically evaluate the useful plants and evaluate the level of environmental perception present in the communities belonging to the Extractive Marine Reserve of Soure. The results showed a high willingness to pay and to receive, in hypothetical cases of loss of useful plants, as well as a high level of environmental perception among the community. These findings reveal the close relationship of the residents with nature and its resources, which characterizes their traditional way of life. In this way, it is inferred that it is important to maintain the culture and knowledge existing in the communities, which are based on traditional knowledge, so as to guarantee the sustainability of this reserve, since it is a Conservation Unit for sustainable use.PPGCA - Meio ambiente e sustentabilidade
