In this scenario, the neutralization soapstock of andiroba oil (Carapa Guianenses Abl.), resulting from the refining of vegetable oils, represents a possibility of providing raw material for the production of methyl esters. The crude soapstock after the acidification reaction, results in a acidic component rich in free fatty acids that can be esterified with methanol. Thus, the objective of the study was to obtain methyl esters by esterifying the fatty acids present in the neutralization soapstock of andiroba oil before and after the acidification step. The fatty acid profile was characterized by gas chromatography, as well as acidity index, saponification index, conversion index, iodine index, moisture content, viscosity, specific mass and ester content. The results demonstrate that the best reaction condition of esterification for the acidic component was 90ºC by 60min, molar ratio acidic component:MeOH the 1:15, 2.5% H2SO4, the conversion in esters of 96.8%, viscosity being 5.8 mm²/s, specific mass 873.9 kg/m3 and ester content 97%. For the crude soapstock the conversion of the esters in the soapstock: MeOH the 1:15 molar ratio, with 60 min, at 90ºC and 20% H2SO4 was 94,6%, with a viscosity of 8.97 mm²/s and a specific mass of 888.9 kg/m³. The results demonstrated the potential of the acidulated component as raw material to obtain methyl esters among the evaluated parameters.PPGCA - Estudos de ecossistemas amazônicos
