In this perspective, the general objective of this research is to understand the application of the economic instruments in the management of the water resources of the Amazonian rivers, with emphasis on the water charge in the State of Pará. Among the specific objectives is the presentation of an overview of the application of this instrument in the international scope; the investigation and contextualization of the methodologies of the federal basins that have already implemented the water charge, aiming to identify advances and challenges, and how environmental valuation can improve the instrument; the discussion of the applicability of the water charge in Pará by contextualizing the progress of water management, identifying the positive and negative points; to draw scenarios of use pressure that may influence the future application of the water charge in Pará; and to verify if the instruments water fee, hydropower royalties and water charge applicable to the exploitation of water resources of Pará have in fact diverse legal nature, being it possible to justify the incidence of three exemptions on the same object. For that, a bibliographic and documentary research was carried out, with a case study. It was found that the application of the water charge has been increasing nationally and internationally, despite the low prices charged and the lack of consideration of the economic valuation. In Pará, the Northeast Coast-Atlantic region and the purpose of Irrigation and Animal Densation are the variables that will require the adoption of weights in the future water charge in order to control the pressures of use. In addition, it was noted that there are similarities and inconsistencies in the water fee, hydropower royalties and water charge that do not justify the incidence of the three exonerations on the same object.PPGCA - Estudos de ecossistemas amazônicos
