The study emphasizes the progress made and the challenges faced regarding the inclusion of deaf people in the municipality of Barcarena, part of the Belém Metropolitan Area in the state of Pará. The general objective is to analyze the inclusion policy at a public school in Barcarena, PA, based on two sources: 1) the Municipal Education Plan (PME); and 2) questionnaires containing responses from two research participants who are school administrators. The research question is: what are the advances and challenges encountered in implementing inclusive education policies for deaf individuals in the schools of Barcarena, PA? The study employs documentary research on the municipality's inclusion policy, grounded in the work of authors such as Lacerda (1996). The results indicate a need for inclusive pedagogical practices that take into account the cultural and territorial specificities of Barcarena. The study highlights the importance of social interaction and dialogue among teachers, deaf individuals, and hearing people in shaping the identities and citizenship of the deaf community. This reinforces the importance of public policies that value diversity and effectively address the needs of the deaf community across various regional and national contexts.PPGED - Saberes culturais e educação na Amazônia
