Its primary objective was to analyze the effects of teaching the area of plane figures through experimental activities and mathematical games on student learning and performance. Employing Didactic Engineering as the research methodology, a didactic sequence comprising experimental activities, mathematical games, and in-depth questions was implemented with a first-year high school class at a state school in the municipality of Colares. The results indicate that the didactic sequence—grounded in teaching the area of plane figures via experimental activities—had a positive impact on the qualitative and quantitative performance of the participating students; it enabled them to rediscover formulas for calculating the area of plane figures and fostered the development of cognitive skills aligned with the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. Quantitative results showed a statistically significant improvement between pre-test and post-test scores, a finding confirmed by statistical analysis. The study concludes that teaching through experimental activities and games greatly benefits student learning, leading to better performance in mathematics classes. Consequently, our contribution takes the form of an educational product designed to offer an alternative approach to teaching the area of plane figures.PPGEM - Metodologia para ensino de matemática no nível médio
