The research problem that guides our study is to determine the potential of a didactic sequence built on Mathematical Modeling for learning exponential functions. The overall objective of this work is to investigate the potential of a didactic sequence built on Mathematical Modeling for learning exponential functions. As a resource, we propose a didactic sequence for teaching exponential functions using Mathematical Modeling with adjustments to the exponential curve of real data and with the assistance of the Desmos software. To substantiate our work, we conducted a bibliographic survey of research related to the teaching of this topic, taking into account investigations from the last 10 years, as well as an opinion survey involving 47 teachers from the state of Pará (and other states) who teach in public high schools, using a questionnaire via Google Forms, in order to identify difficulties in the teaching-learning process and assessment of exponential functions. Our sequence was applied to first-grade high school students at a public school in the municipality of Parauapebas, Pará, Brazil. Results showed that the didactic sequence using modeling proved to be an effective alternative for teaching and learning exponential functions. The sequence revealed that students internalized essential aspects of the exponential function, suggesting that the investigative approach promoted meaningful learning. As the students themselves reported, the methodology enabled them to understand and recognize patterns, and the use of technological tools to solve real problems helped consolidate their learning. We conclude that Mathematical Modeling combined with technologies can be an effective strategy for teaching exponential functionsPPGEM - Metodologia para ensino de matemática no nível médio
