The Amazon biome registered the greatest loss, with 269,800 km² equivalent to 8% of its original forest area leaving only 75.7% of its original vegetation by 2018. Vegetation loss increases solar radiation on the soil surface, reduces air humidity, and alters the energy balance, contributing to higher average environmental temperatures. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze deforestation and examine the correlation between deforestation rates and thermal comfort in the municipality of Conceição do Araguaia, located in the Amazon region, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which addresses climate action. The methodology was based on secondary data from the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Deforestation was analyzed and quantified using QGIS software (version 3.40), while statistical analysis was performed using R Studio (version 4.1) to assess the relationship between vegetation loss and variations in the municipality’s average temperature over the analyzed period. The results revealed a progressive increase in deforestation, expansion of pasture areas, and a moderate inverse correlation between vegetation cover and average temperature, indicating that vegetation loss is associated with a gradual rise in local temperature. These findings underscore the challenges faced by Conceição do Araguaia in achieving SDG 13, especially concerning the mitigation of climate change impacts. The results highlight the urgent need for forest preservation and restoration efforts as key strategies to foster environmental sustainability and thermal balance. The implementation of effective public policies and reforestation programs is recommended to reverse the identified trends, support climate change adaptation, and strengthen the municipality’s environmental resilience.
