However, studies show that adherence to this practice remains low among healthcare professionals and students. In this context, the development of innovative educational strategies that encourage the adoption and retention of this technique becomes essential. This study proposes the use of active methodologies to teach hand hygiene to nursing students in a philanthropic hospital in the Amazon region, developing educational technology to improve adherence to the practice. Objective: To develop an educational technology based on active methodologies, structured in the form of a didactic sequence, for teaching hand hygiene to nursing students in a philanthropic hospital in Belém, Pará. Methodology: This is a descriptive, qualitative study conducted with nursing students from the Adventist College of the Amazon during their internship at the Adventist Hospital of Belém. Data collection was carried out through an electronic form, and textual analysis was performed using IRAMUTEQ software, complemented by Bardin’s Content Analysis. Additionally, Microsoft Excel was used for data tabulation and presentation. Results: Data analysis revealed that students’ perceptions of hand hygiene are linked to the quality of the training received and the use of dynamic educational approaches. The results indicated that active methodologies, such as games, simulations, and interactive materials, enhance learning and knowledge retention, as well as increase adherence to the safe practice of hand hygiene. Final considerations: The implementation of educational technology based on active methodologies contributes to the training of nursing students. Integrating these strategies into hand hygiene education enables more engaging, reflective, and effective learning, fostering a culture of hospital safety and infection prevention. Thus, it is recommended to expand the use of these methodologies in nursing education, aiming to train professionals who are better prepared and more committed to patient safety.PPG-ESA - Fundamentos e metodologias em ensino na saúde na Amazônia
