For the socioeconomic and environmental survey a structured questionnaire was applied to one member of each family (100% of the families: n = 257) and fecal samples of 250 children and pre-adolescents were collected for the diagnosis of intestinal parasitoses. Physical-chemical and bacteriological analyzes of the water of the creek were also carried out. The collected data were statistically analyzed (Pearson's Correlation Test, G Test and ANOVA at 5% significance level) using the Bioestat 5.3 software. The results indicate that the majority of the families have low literacy level and purchasing power, having as main occupation informal work. Environmental problems were also evidenced, mainly, the lack of basic sanitation. Regarding children's health, it was detected that 91.2% were infected by at least one parasite species, of which 57.2% had polyparasitism. With regard of the physicochemical parameters of water, dissolved oxygen had an average value of less than 5 mg / L. In the bacteriological analyzes, mean values were 47.654 NMP / 100mL low tide and 19.994 NMP / 100mL high tide for Thermotolerant Coliforms. Residents of Santa Cruz creek live in conditions conducive to unemployment, social exclusion, unhealthy conditions and disease development, due to poor socioeconomic, environmental and infrastructure conditions. The study also generated an educational booklet of simple and illustrated language, which addressed intestinal parasites. The socioeconomic and environmental scenario evidenced in the present study indicates that the inhabitants of the creek live in conditions of risk to health, misery and abandonment. Thus, it is expected that the results of this research contribute to the implementation of public policies that may intervene in public health and sanitation, in order to provide improvement in the quality of life of residents of Santa Cruz creek.PPGCA - Estudos de ecossistemas amazônicos
